After storm Amy (October 2025), we undertook for RES a signal survey and coverage assessment to determine the coverage of existing 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G mobile phone network services along the access track to the operational Cour Wind Farm and around the wind farm site itself. The track is over 15 miles in length. The work was undertaken to determine if there was good, reliable mobile network coverage to ensure the safety of site visitors and those travelling to the site along the access track. The access track is long and passes through actively managed conifer forests (Forestry and Land Scotland). There are a number of water crossings and the track is undulating. Livestock is also present along the access track.

Overall, we concluded that mobile connectivity cannot be guaranteed for any user along this route. The implications for worker safety are profound, especially for those reliant on networks with weaker coverage. The potential risks include the inability to summon immediate assistance during medical emergencies, vehicle breakdowns, or other incidents that might leave individuals stranded or incapacitated.

We suggested solutions to ensure robust connectivity for site workers. Contact us to discuss your mobile network coverage assessment.
